A Year in a Field (2023), documentary, 86 mins, Christopher Morris, writer and dir.
BAFTA-winning documentary filmmaker Christopher Morris filmed a 4,000-year-old Neolithic monolith in the Cornish landscape for a year. Every day, he walked the mile from his home to the stone, from the Winter Solstice 2020 to the same day in 2021. He films the stone through the changing seasons, films the wildlife around it, the occasional intrusions of litter and/or people, but the stone is the principal character, which draws contemplative and sometimes challenging commentary from Morris. A meditative, quietly enthralling film, made by one person with one camera and no budget, it was a surprise choice to be entered at the prestigious Sheffield Doc Fest in 2023.
